(T)he best descriptor for (Indigo and Crystal Children) is Star Kids... A Star Kid may be defined as a child of both human and extraterrestrial origin. The extraterrestrial contribution to the child's makeup may come from: 1) Star Visitor genes spliced into the human parent's reproductive material, (genetic engineering); 2) from a deliberately-chosen "missionary" incarnation of an Star Visitor into a human body to accomplish important work here, bringing useful awareness and competencies; 3) from advanced Star Visitor biomedical technology able to alter an already-grown human to become more robust, psychic, etc.; 4) from a "Walk-In" situation in which a human somewhere during childhood or later begins to die from an accident or serious illness, but the departing human spirit/soul/personality is simultaneously replaced by a Star Visitor spirit/soul/personality, which carries on and completes the lifetime; and, 5) by a Star Visitor personality/ consciousness coming in and sharing his own consciousness/personality within the human's awareness field as dual, or alternating, consciousnesses.

Where I fault the film is the sensationalization of the label "Indigo." The new children have been variously described as Indigos (because of the supposed color of their auras), Star Kids (because of their purported origination from other worlds), Crystal Children (because some say they are highly developed), and so forth -- none of these claims hold up as stated with research, whether via scientific observation or by studying mystical/esoteric traditions or through summarizing visionary revelations. The label "Indigo," plus the others, are now subject to serious challenge. Professionals in the field of child development and education, parents, even the kids themselves, are having problems with the idea that certain character traits are the province of so-called "Indigos," when, in fact, the majority of today's children match those traits -- without evidencing anything like a purple aura, or being a hybrid from another planet, or possessing "god-like" wisdom.

Starseeds are individuals who feel excitement and longing upon learning that they might have originated from another world. They experience the aloneness and separateness that is the human condition, but also have the sense of being foreigners on this planet. They find the behavior and motives of our society puzzling and illogical. Starseeds are often most reluctant to become involved in the institutions of society, e.g. political, economic, health care, etc. Even at an early age, they tend to discern the hidden agendas of such conventions with unusual clarity. The term we use called 'Indigo children' claim past or future lives, even when they get older. In the past, children who have claimed past lives have not displayed the indigo characteristics and have forgotten about their past life memory by about the age of 11, only for the parent to talk of it. However, in the case of indigos, they often keep hold of these memories. Future lives are also included as indigos have a different concept - holistic rather than linear - about time, and therefore seem more likely to report future lives as well as life on "other planets."

As to whether an alien intelligence is behind these unusual children, everyone involved is much more coy. "Nobody really knows," Batten says. "This is a really interesting question." "I'm guessing maybe alien," Jake's mother says. Brahm might have mentioned something about her son coming from the planet Pleiades. "I don't know. I don't understand all of that." "I don't know where souls come from. I don't remember," Brahm says, but she will say there are "six places on my genes that are not technically human." Any chance of getting a look at some of that blood work? "I'm not letting them take blood again. I will not become the object of investigation. I worked at a hospital. I know what they do." ... People turn to weird ideas, (Shermer) says, because they want to believe in something that transcends the ordinary, gives certainty in an uncertain world, or helps them deal with their own mortality.

"To me these children are the answers to the prayers we all have for peace," said Doreen Virtue, a former psychotherapist for adolescents who now writes books and lectures on indigo children. She calls the indigos a leap in human evolution. "They're vigilant about cleaning the earth of social ills and corruption, and increasing integrity," Ms. Virtue said. "Other generations tried, but then they became apathetic. This generation won't, unless we drug them into submission with Ritalin." To skeptics the concept of indigo children belongs in the realm of wishful thinking and New Age credulity. "All of us would prefer not to have our kids labeled with a psychiatric disorder, but in this case it's a sham diagnosis," said Russell Barkley, a research professor of psychiatry at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. "There's no science behind it. There are no studies." Dr. Barkley likened the definition of indigo children to an academic exercise called "Barnum statements," after P. T. Barnum, in which a person is given a list of generic psychological characteristics and becomes convinced that they apply especially to him or her. The traits attributed to indigo children, he said, are so general that they "could describe most of the people most of the time," which means that they don't describe anything.

Know-it-all brat or weirdo moonchild sent to save the world? That's the question millions of wacky parents are asking these days. And for many suburban families desperate to find some meaning in the cruel drudgery of life, their moody hyperactive kids are really gifted creatures who will lead humanity to a new evolutionary phase. These kids are called Indigo Children, allegedly because of the purple aura seen -- by psychics, of course -- floating around their little skulls... Southern California mom Carolyn Kaufman tells the Orange County Register that her three kids are all Indigos. It's a lucky trifecta for Kaufman, as she believes in every known form of hippie mumbo-jumbo and sells her services to other "Indigo parents."

Now I know that many will assert that this topic is intended to be understood as more spiritual or "New Age" in nature, and I'm quite sure that's what the entrepreneurs behind the "Indigo Child" nonsense want you to believe. The first problem with their mask of spirituality, is that it is painted with pseudo-science: psychic powers, mystical energies, specifically colored auras - visible only by certain specialists or equipment, and so many other utter bullshit things like telepathic communication. The second and major problem with this so-called mask of spirituality is that it is embellished with items that belong to the real sciences. Evolution, Psychiatry (ADD, and ADHD), and as a particularly annoying example, Doreen Virtue's "The Crystal Children" article, contains a discussion of autism...

Parents who insist on downplaying or rejecting an ADHD diagnosis may be setting up their youngsters for a lifetime of difficulty, says Ronald Brown, professor of public health and a dean at Temple University. "Several longitudinal studies show these undiagnosed children don't fare as well as adults," Brown says. "They get stuck in low-paying jobs and experience difficult marriages." ... Virtue predicts that no new Indigos will be born. Instead, she says, she's already beginning to see Crystal children, born with exceptional healing powers and the ability to communicate telepathically. Their challenge, she says, "is that they may be misdiagnosed with autism."

Boomers have always idealized what Rousseau called the "vigor of youth." ... The Indigos themselves can be equally in thrall to their genius. Writes twentysomething wunderkind Ryan Maluski, "I always knew I belonged here on Earth, and I always had a deep-seated universal knowledge of how things really work and who I really was. Yet, with grand humor, I chose to grow up with people in situations and places that reflected absolutely none of my sense of self..."

The Carroll and Tober book is a distortion of the concept of giftedness. They are not talking about kids who happen to have exceptional abilities (giftedness); rather, they are talking about kids who have other-worldliness qualities, angels beyond the scope of mortals. What's worse, these indigo kids don't have to carry out the garbage, a requirement that I have of all budding prodigies. Rather than dismiss this, I want to make a statement to my colleagues in the field. The indigo children movement is not about children, and it is not about the color indigo. It is about adults who style themselves as experts and who are making money on books, presentations, and services. It is about parents who are not satisfied with the blessings of having children, but need to feel that they have "other-worldly angels" sent here to spiritually save the world.

So why was Harry diagnosed as autistic? Does speaking or reading later than expected warrant such a serious diagnosis? Why not call these sensitive children "late-talkers" instead of pathologizing them with psychiatric diagnoses and making them feel ashamed of themselves? Hundreds of parents around the globe have submitted stories about their Crystal Children who "took their sweet time" to begin speaking. Perhaps instead of labeling this phenomenon "an epidemic of autism," as the media and medical establishment has done, we should examine it for indications of humankind's evolution. Who knows -- maybe we don't need speaking anymore! Perhaps it's as antiquated as the toes that we once used for climbing trees! Could telepathy be akin to the opposable thumbs we developed through evolution�that is, a necessary new tool for a changing world?

The Crystal Children are said to have started being born about 7 years ago, but I think more like 3 years ago. Some sources say they haven't come yet but there are forerunners who are elders that carry the same characteristics . The Crystals are here to bring love. They are even more super sensitive to energies than the Indigos and are even more psychic. Some characteristics of a Crystal child are that they learn to speak at a much later age (often after 3, 4 or even 5 years old). They are most commonly misdiagnosed with Autism or Asperger's Syndrome.

Those of us who think channelling and psychic powers are a load of codswallop describe these children as arrogant, impatient children who have not been guided to develop self-control. Or they may have neurological challenges such as ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, or bi-polar. In any case, their parents are doing them no favors by avoiding the challenges of parenting, and or seeking competent medical care, in favor of new-age worship of the child. Why such coverage now? Because the Indigo True Believers are clever marketers, that's why. Over the weekend of January 27, 2006, there will be a nation-wide "World Indigo Weekend", feature the release of a new movie, The Indigo Evolution, ( Indigo: The Movie , a fictional treatment which premiered in 2003, will also be widely shown, even though it seems to be a turkey. Even New Agers hate this one).

In the book called "The Indigo Children" there has been extensive research on these children... these kids know exactly what you're feeling and what you're thinking. You can't hide anything from them. It's really amazing! I see it as a phenomenon like the ET's except they aren't coming here in spaceship form - they are coming here in spirit form making it personal by coming into the earth's evolutionary cycle and joining with us. I've often thought that when spirits come in on the right side of the planet - Japan, China, and Tibet for instance, the incarnating being takes on the psychic characteristics (of those people), and if they come in on the western side - the logical side (i.e., physical characteristics) - then the DNA comes in changed. But that's just speculation on my part. I'm just looking at this and trying to understand what is occurring.

In order to believe Twyman's Emissaries are real, we must believe that they are a group of the most advanced human beings ever to walk the Earth and that he, as their chief spokesperson, is one of the greatest spiritual figures the world has ever known.

This is a very clever marketing scheme to give parents the opportunity to claim their children's inability to fit in is evidence of their being at a higher level of human evolution. No more ADD/ADHD! Instead they're...indigo. While it's necessary to accept people who are different and recognize what special skills they may have, it does them a disservice to ascribe to them mystical powers that aren't identified by any scientist. It only serves to isolate them further, by making them into freaks, even if they're "superior" freaks.

As a summary, here are the ten attributes that best describe this new kind of child, the Indigo Child (named by those who predicted it). * They come into the world with a feeling of royalty (and often act like it) * They have a feeling of "deserving to be here," and are surprised when others don't share that. * Self-worth is not a big issue. They often tell the parents "who they are." * They have difficulty with absolute authority (authority without explanation or choice). * They simply will not do certain things; for example, waiting in line is difficult for them. * They get frustrated with systems that are ritually oriented and don't require creative thought. * They often see better ways of doing things, both at home and in school, which makes them seem like "system busters" nonnconforming to any system). * They seem antisocial unless they are with their own kind. If there are no others of like consciousness around them, they often turn inward, feeling like no other human understands them. School is often extremely difficult for them socially. * They will not respond to "guilt" discipline ("Wait till your father gets home and finds out what you did"). * They are not shy in letting you know what they need.

What I find fascinating about these brilliant new kids is that our teachers and the educational system found them defective when judging this new human race. In the beginning our educational system didn't realize they were so intelligent. They have actually thought they were problematic. They diagnosed them with attention deficit disorder (ADD) because they thought they could not stay focused. The problem is now becoming clear. It is not the children; it is the educational system itself that is not prepared to educate these gifted children. The children are simply bored with the speed and nature of the delivery and the content of the information. We need to adapt to this exciting new race of children. Give an Indigo child who has been tagged as ADD or ADHD something to study that he or she is interested in, and you will see the brilliance unfold before your eyes. There is so much we need to learn in order to allow the great potential of these kids to come to light.

Indigo children are supposedly a set of children having certain special psychological and spiritual attributes. The indigo child concept was first popularized by the book The Indigo Children, written by the husband and wife team of Lee Carroll and Jan Tober1. He claims to have learned of the concept via conversations with a magical being he calls "Kryon." The adjective "indigo" is used because it is claimed these children appear with an indigo-hued aura. It should be noted that there is no scientific basis whatsoever for the concept of an "aura," let alone an "indigo child."

One can understand why many parents would not want their child to be labeled as ADD or ADHD. The label implies imperfection. Some may even take it to mean the child is "damaged." Specifically, it means your child's behavior is due to a neuro-biological condition. To some, this is the same as having a malfunctioning brain or a mental disorder. Understandably, emotions run high here. Treatment of children with problems is a hot button issue for the mass media, attack lawyers, talk show hosts, columnists, and others not known for their role in clarifying complicated scientific or medical matters. Many jump on the bandwagon and attack the drug industry and psychiatrists for overdrugging our children. Opposition is fruitless, because few will listen to those who would defend those who �abuse� children. Fewer still will bother to investigate to see whether the critics know what they are talking about.

Indigos process their emotions differently than non Indigos because they have high self-esteem and strong integrity. They can read you like an open book and quickly notice and neutralize any hidden agendas or attempts to manipulate them, however subtly. In fact, they can see your hidden agendas even if you can't! They have inherently strong determination to work things through for themselves and only want outside guidance if it's presented to them with respect and within a format of true choice. They prefer to work situations out for themselves.

Carolyn Kaufman also offers an example about her sony Tomy: "After fights with his sister over what to watch on TV, Tomy has broken five VCRs in the family home using only his energy force, Kaufman said." In some families, kids might get grounded for breaking expensive electronics. Not in Kaufman's house. I'm sensing it would be great to be a kid in the Kaufman house. You could get away with anything. "It wasn't my fault, Mom. It was my energy force."

Autism is the result of non-verbal receptors of the dolphin-whale kingdoms in the brain of a human. Such a mixture is the result of the creation of the 'mermaid' species by the Anu scientists... The records for the blending of animal and aquatic DNA with human DNA leave a scarring in the ancestry and cellular structure. Every so many generations, the scars recur leading to deformity or autism. Deformity generally occurs where animal heads were united with human form, or human heads with animal form in the Anu experiments. Often this leads to a "hump back human" if expressed in present time. Some adults experience a webbing between fingers or toes, or a crippling form of arthritis in which fingers and toes twist around one another. This form of birth defect or arthritis is the expression of the scarring in the ancestry where the genetics for the fins of fish or dolphins and whales were united with the arms and legs of humans. As those suffering from such patterns in present time or their relations release the karma in full, such genetic scarring shall release and the genes associated shall be erased from the human gene pool.

The danger of the indigo-child thesis, as MOM-NOS points out, or of the certain anti-psychiatric elements of the left, as Toby Miller and Marie Claire Leger point out, is that these versions of reality can cast parents like ourselves as evil drug pushers, rather than as parents who are doing abolutely everything we can to help make a home for our children in this world. When we struggle to make meaning of the nature of our conditions as parents of children with these neurological differences and behaviorial challenges, it is critically important that the meanings that we spin�whether a new age tale of interplanetary messengers, or the political story of the FDA and CDC asleep at the wheel as big-pharma poisons our children with thimerosal, or the social activist narrative of neurodiverity�don't interfere with our children getting everything they need to thrive.

The boy says he was a Martian being seven meters in height in his past life. The unusual baby boy was born in the town of Volzhsky, the Volgograd region of Russia. Whatever you call them, (Indigo's or something else) our children are coming into the world with their eyes wide open, ready to play their role in creating a world of compassion and peace. Are we witnessing a major leap in human evolution, what Jean Houston calls "Jump Time?" Many people believe that we are on the brink of a global awakening, and that the Indigo Children are here to show us our highest potential. Some mental health experts fear that parents may embrace the Indigo label because they don't want to believe their children have behavior problems associated with ADHD, such as resistance to authority and trouble with school rules. "The odds are that mixed in that group are a number of children who are very, very bright and astute and alert and very sensitive to picking up cues in other people," says David Stein, a psychology professor at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. But "I would not call them Indigo children. I would simply say it's a bright child who misbehaves." David Cohen, a clinical social work professor at Florida International University in Miami, agrees. "The view in medicine is that ADHD is a defect. It's a disorder," he says. "If you're a parent, the idea of 'gifted' is much more appealing than the idea of a disorder."

The Indigo Child concept may appeal especially to parents of children with mental health challenges, e.g. ADD, ADHD, autism, bi-polar disorder, conduct disorder, or a difficult temperament. Proponents target these label- and medication-wary parents. So, what is the harm in giving parents a positive spin on their children for a change -- like Indigo? Besides parents possibly foregoing beneficial, if not life-saving, treatment for children with mental or neurological disorders, some proponents of the Indigo movement, including James Twyman, infuse children with a false sense of human superiority and a bizarre paranormal identity. Mutilating science while claiming scientific proof, children are led to believe by trusted adults that they were born members of a new breed of the human race, the next step in human evolution, that their genes were somehow altered -- perhaps as a result of divine or extraterrestrial intervention, or spontaneous genetic mutation accomplished by non other than the children themselves. Some children come to believe they are endowed with extraordinary powers such as clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, healing powers, pre-birth and previous life recall, etc. Tober and Carroll tell us that Indigo Children don't fit in and feel uncomfortable when not with other Indigos. Small wonder!

is a film about loneliness, redemption, and the healing powers and grace of the new generation of Indigo (psychic and gifted) children being born into the world. Although the story is fictional, the emotions and actions of the film resonate with the spiritual dynamics of life today. The dramatic core of the film is the relationship that develops between a man whose life and family have dissolved due to a fateful mistake and his 10 year-old granddaughter with whom he goes on the run to protect her from a would-be kidnapper. Along the way, he discovers the power of his granddaughter's gifts which forever alter the lives of everyone she encounters.

Indigos have a biochemical system that has differing needs and considerations than other aura colors. Acceptance of their more sensitive systems pays rich dividends for parents. Indigos seem to register emotional, physical, and psychological input at an unusually high frequency, in the same way some audio equipment is designed to pick up sound waves in the upper ranges. Consequently, their systems reach overload more quickly. This means that they tire more easily, can become confused from too much noise or chaos. Like the Crystals, they have extremely sensitive neural systems. Excessive excitement or prolonged stimulation can cause them to withdraw into themselves. Adults misunderstand this behavior as being contrary or difficult, when it is simply the Indigo child attempting to find emotional respite.

With much theorizing and conjecture based upon little objectively determined data, there appears to be a new characteristic that is being assigned to profoundly gifted young people: Other Worldliness. We are deeply concerned that this characteristic is harmful to the children. When gifted children are labeled "Angels," "The New Children," "Indigo Children," "Children of the New Millennium," or referred to as "Other Worldly," the implication is that high intellectual ability includes supernatural ability. Some professionals are claiming that these highly gifted young people are a "new breed" of children who have the power to save humanity in the new millennium. This is an extreme and unrealistic expectation to be placed upon a young child. We do not think that it is appropriate to tell any child privately and/or in the press, that he/she is one of the smartest people who has ever lived and is part of a new breed of children who will be responsible for saving the world. Isn't there enough pressure placed upon highly gifted children without making them responsible for all of humanity in the millennium?

The fringe ends of this movement are really weird (children immune to AIDS, mutating their own DNA to contain more helixes or something like that, power to move objects mentally, etc.) and Twyman is one promoter of the extreme notions... These children are going to actually believe this insanity about them they are being told, and at some point reality is going to kick them in the teeth. The harmful effects of this fraud he is perpetrating on these children could haunt them for the rest of their lives.

Some may call the specter of "indigos" just wishful thinking by parents who want their kids to be more special than special. Some may call the concept, in itself, scary social labeling that places some kids higher than others: a master race of überchildren. There are even some advocates for autistic and ADD children who find the "indigo" idea offensive and dangerous, a scientifically unsupportable effort to re-label their kids in a way that hides the truth of their condition.

Tammy and Aaren Glover say their first child, Angelina, was unusually gifted when she was very young. By the time she was 2, she could speak in Spanish and sing in French. As she grew older, they claim she would dream things before they would happen, and had a great sense of empathy. The Glovers believe Angelina, now 10, and her three younger sibling are among a group of children called Indigo, so named because of the blue aura some say they see surrounding them. Indigo children are described as highly accomplished, deeply spiritual and gifted with psychic abilities. They often talk about speaking with God, angels or people who have died.

Indigo advocates believe that many children born after 1975 possess an Indigo-color aura around them and unique almost supernatural traits. To the rest of the world, these kids may appear to be unruly and their parents may have gone overboard in the coddling of their children. Indigo kids bristle at authority and have little patience. Their advocates say they act like royalty and have no guilt. Simple acts, like waiting in lines, drive them crazy. Their parents are sure they can see the future and talk to angels. Skeptics say some parents want so badly for their kids to be special that they may mischaracterize their children's behavior.

Whether or not it's true that these "Indigo Children" exist, the fact is that it's becoming a rather prevalent notion within certain parenting circles, and may witness "mainstream creep" sooner rather than later. They have, after all, already been featured on Oprah. Now, although most of the more prominent individuals who are selling the idea of "indigo children" believe that they're simply highly evolved humans, a sub-sect surrounding the phenomenon has raised the possibility that these kids are actually alien hybrids, or the offspring of alien-human breeding, a common element in many abduction accounts... In my opinion, it adds up to a bunch of gifted kids being exploited by a bunch of sick individuals, be they starry-eyed alienistas, evil ritual abusers or just New Age parents, who can't just let the kids be kids.

Your kids aren't hyperactive or autistic, anti-social or out of control, egotistical or angry. They're not brats. No, they're highly evolved "Indigo children" come to save the world from pollution and war.. the sound you heard was my eye-roll at the concept of "indigo children." Surely this is just another ploy to convince the newest generation that they are extra special and wonderful and deserving of perks over and above everyone else and immune to criticism and and and.... and those of us who will be having to teach them in the future are afraid, very afraid.

I live near Sedona, Az. I often study there and take classes... So I am exposed to many wonderful sources...and a lot of hooey as well. I have observed (mostly in Sedona) that the term Indigo is so loosely used...and mostly used by New Age parents who have no clue on how to raise their obnoxiously behaviour-challenged offspring. It easier for them to proclaim that their children are Indigo, than to set healthy boundaries and take the time to raise their children.

I know a lot of parents of children with special needs. There is a huge temptation for parents, especially early in the diagnostic process, to think of their children as specially gifted and possessing extraordinary powers instead of thinking of them as having a lifelong, pervasive disability. And certainly, all children have gifts; but that does not mean that some children - increasing numbers of children - have profound disabilities, and "even autism." It is widely accepted in the autism community that early diagnosis and intervention in autism can make a tremendous difference in a child's prognostic outcome. In my opinion, a parent of a child with autism takes a significant risk by pursuing the kind of educational philosophies promoted by the "Indigo" movement, which focus solely on supporting the child and "following the child's lead." Frankly, I see that sort of non-intervention as a waste of valuable time.

It appears to be the consensus of New Agers that the Indigo Children are a new race of beings whose function will be to effect a paradigm shift to a higher dimension to enter into... Mind control programmers don't waste their time and financial budget attempting to program children of low intellect. As soon as word of the UCLA discovery entered the public domain, New Agers began publicizing (and profiting from) the situation, calling the kids "Indigo Children" or "Crystal Children" (all human cells contain liquid crystals). To make matters worse, some unthinking New Agers (possibly born with their brains located in the lower extremity of their bodies) began establishing groups where parents of such gifted children can take their offspring to socialize with kindred souls. The establishment of such groups for "Indigo Children" was manna from heaven for mind control programmers. No longer do they have to laboriously search for such potential hapless victims, all they have to do is to infiltrate such groups as "helpers." At the present time, there are at least six hundred such groups for Indigo Children throughout the world. I am personally aware of one well known New Age writer and lecturer who is involved with Indigo Children on behalf of a certain intelligence agency; doubtless there are others. Alien abductions serve multiple purposes, and this is one of them. Presently, the hybrid breeding program is virtually finished. Hybrids look human, but lack our aforementioned qualities that make us liable to resist an overt alien presence. Some are already being silently integrated into the population. A few are being unwittingly born into human families, others will be introduced in mass numbers later this decade when they reach child-bearing age. Some hybrids among us are already being passed off as "Indigo Children," though not all Indigo Children are hybrids. The hybrids most successfully following their intended programming act like little psychopaths, have contempt for humans, and possess acute intellectual and psychic powers to support their ambitions. It is these qualities that make them fit for eventually ruling over humanity in obedience to their alien superiors.

It's true that the Crystal Children are different from other generations. But why do we need to pathologize these differences? If the children are successfully communicating at home, and the parents are'nt reporting any problems... then why try to make a problem? The diagnostic criteria for autism is quite clear. It states that the autistic person lives in his or her own world, and is disconnected from other people. The autistic person doesn't talk because of an indifference to communicating with others. Crystal Children are quite the opposite. They are among the most connected, communicative, caring and cuddly of any generation. They are also quite philosophical and spiritually gifted. And they display an unprecedented level of kindness and sensitivity to this world. Crystal Children spontaneously hug and care for people in need. An autistic person wouldn't do that! In my book "The Care and Feeding of Indigo Children", I wrote that ADHD should stand for Attention Dialed into a Higher Dimension. This would more accurately describe that generation. In the same vein, Crystal Children don't warrant a label of autiem. They aren't autistic! They're AWE-tistic!

Indigos have a mission on Earth to help to bring the planet into ascension. Many Indigos also have strong psychic talents which need assistance and support to develop. Some Indigos are natural healers and seem to be naturally attuned to Reiki energy. Some children who have autism and those with Asperger's Syndrome are also Indigo Children and it is thought that with spiritual counseling and various energy therapies such as Reiki, Shamballa, and EMF Balancing, among others, that these children may come out of their shells. Indigo Children are named for the predominant auric color of indigo (an ink-like dark blue with a touch of red). The color indigo represents the third eye chakra, the energy center of psychic activity, which is believed to be wide open on most Indigos. Indigos experience a thinner "veil" or separation between the earth and the spirit worlds, and they are able to access information many cannot. Most of the behaviors of Indigos are explainable by this aspect of a thinner veil.

The perceived crises of American childhood that are reinscribed with positive meaning in the universe of the Indigo children are two-fold. First there is the increase in diagnoses of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit/ Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) in American children. Second, and of somewhat less importance in the discourse of the Indigos, but of no less importance in American popular discourse is the heightened awareness of youth violence... Examination of the relatively fringe group of Indigo Children believers reveals something about the narratives of individual human lives and about larger New Age communities, but it also reveals the strength of certain pervasive American narratives and the hope for democratic citizenship and an ever more perfect future that American children continue to represent.
